Exceptionally hard-working and disciplined

In 2011 Pierce Maritime completely re-landscaped our property, working to a plan drawn up by our landscape designer. The front yard lawn and backyard weed patch were replaced with fully planted beds and borders surrounded by slate slab paving. Beautifully crafted larch raised beds for herbs and vegetables were added. Going beyond the plan, Tony also installed a magnificent set of stone steps and a spectacular dry masonry retaining wall. He recommended and installed underground drainage that was not specified in the plan but adds immeasurably to the beauty and maintainability of our garden.

Throughout the process, Tony consulted about every deviation from the plan and kept us informed of his work schedule. He has a staggering capacity for physical labour, which sets the pace for an exceptionally hard-working and disciplined crew. It was an education to observe them at work. In addition to his project management skills, Tony is a gifted and rigorous stone mason. Although the plants are beautiful, the selection and placement of stone make our landscape unique. We continue to receive compliments from the strangers who stop to stare. We recommend Pierce Maritime unreservedly!

A highlight of the Canadian Cancer Society’s annual garden tour

We have been dealing with Pierce Maritime for 18 years. Our country home was built in 1996 on 1.5 acres of land on Porters Lake. The gardens were designed by Tony Pierce and carried out over a number of years. His company provided granite pillars for our gates leading to a Weigelia hedge, mugo pines, roses, magnolia trees, a dogwood tree, rhododendrons, a sunburst locust tree, a burning bush, azalea, forsythia, daisies, sedum, blueberry bushes and a cherry tree. In 2007, our property was a highlight of the Canadian Cancer Society’s annual garden tour. Tony, Cathie and Ben Pierce have done a wonderful job for us.

We have been working with Pierce Maritime for more than twenty years

Pierce Maritime has been doing work for us for more than twenty years. Tony and Ben both possess a sensitivity and respect for the landscape well as the wider environment that is projected in all that they do. Integrity and a strong work ethic invariably underlie their projects. We have always found Pierce Maritime to be both practical and reliable.

We completely trust their expertise in both hard- and landscaping

In 2000, Tony and his crew transformed our lot - a rocky and muddy piece of unkempt wilderness with a house newly built amidst it - into a beautifully landscaped set of spaces. We've had changes over the years: addition of a pond and then a transformation of that space into a seating courtyard, an enclosure placed into a wild spot in front, a pathway leading down from our elevation to the lake, and a dock on the lake, to mention a few. All the while Tony, and Ben work to ensure the integrity of the forest/ woods in which our lot is placed.

We see Pierce Maritime at least twice a year, trusting Tony and Ben with the big tasks of opening and closing the garden each year. And we completely trust their expertise in both hard- and landscaping. We cannot recommend them highly enough.

They transformed the property into a garden paradise

When we moved out of Halifax to Wellington about 15 years ago, the property we purchased was almost three acres of a rocky slope down to the lake and densely wooded. We had a rough idea of what needed to be done, but fortunately we were introduced to Tony Pierce and his team at Pierce Maritime. Over a few weeks they transformed the property into a garden paradise. A lot of the rock on the property they used to construct retaining walls and a terraced garden. They created a water garden with running water where there was a swamp, and made beautiful paths and gardens. They constructed a deck which overlooks the lake and provides access to the gardens.

In addition to the landscaping the construction crew also replace the windows and siding on our house. Over the years, Tony and his team have done a number of other projects with us and always their work has been perfect.

Full on service with no hesitation

I have relied on Pierce Maritime for over 20 years. In my opinion they are one of the foremost landscape and property maintenance contractors in HRM. I have come to depend on their high level of workmanship for stonework, pool decking, landscaping, planting, stone paving, walkways, irrigation, yard work, tree removal, external house repair and wharf construction. Their weekly service work is reliable and prompt. The day after hurricane Juan they dedicated two full days to cleaning up and restoring my property, to include the removal of 5 fully mature fallen hardwood trees; full on service with no hesitation. Pierce has strong ties with the best architects, florists and suppliers. With two generations of principles working within the company I have confidence that our relationship will have a long future. They have earned my full endorsement many times over.
